The Sonia Vassi for Kids Foundation was started in 2008 after Sonia's daughter, Brianna decided that she wanted to give away all of her toys to "kids without moms and dads". Around the same time one of Sonia's friends from Sofia, Bulgaria showed Sonia a video of a recent trip to an orphanage called Sveta Sofia showing children in their beds eating some candy that he had brought to them. Sonia thought that if some candy could bring that much happiness and a smile to their little faces then what could she do to make a difference by giving and getting others to give. When Brianna mentioned that she wanted to give away all of her toys to needy children, Sonia decided to start shipping her toys and clothes to Sveta Sofia in Bulgaria. After that, Sonia's sister Anna decided to send her son's (Britain) toys and clothes. Since then all of Sonia's friends that have heard about this started to send all of their old toys and clothes as well. Sveta Sofia received such an overwhelming amount of toys and clothes that they have recently started to send the toys and clothes that are coming in to other orphanages all over Bulgaria. Sonia is going to visit Sveta Sofia in December to help bring awareness to people and to encourage others to give what they can to this worthy cause.
